Canoe Curious is an open-group, fully guided canoe trip designed for people who have never been canoe tripping before, but feel curious about the backcountry and ready to take the first step with other like-minded people.

No experience needed. No gear required. Just a willingness to arrive.

We don’t do one-size-fits-all guides. Instead, we carefully match you with a professional and fun guide whose skills and personality fit your group’s vibe and goals. Our trips are a 100% turnkey experience. No need to worry about what to bring or how to prepare. We organize the gear, food, and safety plans - making it simple for you to experience the backcountry with confidence. No previous experience necessary.

Itinerary Overview

Like nature, the itineray ebbs and flows according to the emerging needs of the group and the conditions of the wilderness.

  • Early day:

    Arrive to Driftwood Paddle Basecamp, grounding + meet and greet
    Team lunch, backcountry briefing, canoe lesson, load up boats.

    Later Day:

    Paddle, Lake, River, Snack, Portage Find campsite and set up camp, explore area, go for a swim.
    Dinner over the fire, campfire chats, gaze at the milky way.

  • Early Day:

    Optional sunrise wildlife paddle. Brekkie Sandwiches and coffee by the lake.
    Pack light for exploration day trip!

    Later Day:

    Explore waterfall, take a swim, lunch. Paddle back to campsite.
    Hammock siesta, take some you time.

    Relaxing sunset soiree, campfire dinner, stargaze.

  • Early Day:

    Relaxed morning, lakeside coffee, french toast brekkie.
    Pack up camp, hit the water. Paddle, grab beach/island campsite.

    Set up camp.

    Later Day:

    Lunch time.
    Spontaneous afternoon - here we go with the flow with no solid plan and see where it takes us.
    Dinner and fall asleep to the call of the loons.

  • Early Day:

    Break camp after brekkie.
    Begin journey back to Driftwood. Basecamp, reflecting and sharing stories along the way.
    Return and be greeted with smiles and snacks.
    Pick up a Driftwood souvenir and say goodbyes.

FAQs

  • Our trips take place in the North West corner of Algonquin Park. Our basecamp is located on Kawawaymog Lake, near Access Point #1 to the park. 

  • Absolutely. No prior canoeing or wilderness experience is needed. Our guides provide all instruction, support, and guidance to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and enriching adventure for every skill level.

  • We know how much of a difference quality makes in the backcountry, so rest assured from food to gear you will be taken care of.

    Travel: Canoes, paddles, life jackets.
    Gear: Tents, tarps, sleeping pads, sleeping bags.
    Food: All meals, water purifying system, and cooking equipment. A menu designed to your dietary requests. 
    Safety Gear: Emergency communication device, compass, bailers, rope, fully stocked first aid kit. All guides are certified as Wilderness First Responders and National Lifeguards.
